“Lord of the Flies” – sketch

Objectives:

• This is part of a character development process. I began by layering different media together in order to create emphasis in different parts of the character’s silhouette. I also scratched into the paint with a paper clip to create the orange-like dots and lines.
• At this stage, I am merely trying to evoke a feeling, idea, or character trait that I want my character to embody. I am always open to possibilities, from the media as well as conceptual traits. I saw a glowing eye among the leaves covering the face, indicative of a reference from the story about a pair of glasses worn by one of the characters.
