Copper Solution, Tar
Objectives:
- To create texture through corrosion, over the passage of time, in order to attempt to control its spontaneity for design purposes. This was meant to be a way to analyze the movement in texture in order to replicate it later on in other media like charcoal, watercolor/gouache, and the reductive process of erasing paint from a surface a la Bernie Fuchs.
- I would prepare and soak several pieces of copper in a salt and bleach solution for several days and watch the results progress. Once they dried, I would try to draw and paint on top. I failed many times in trying to render media while preserving the salt marks. I tried sealing the surfaces as well. One idea I haven’t tried yet is to encase them in resin and layer paint on top.
