Pastel, Acrylic, Oil, Tar
Objectives:
- To capture the likeness of someone recognizable using new materials and processes.
- I was having difficulty trying to render the eyes using a palette knife. I didn’t want to use a brush because I felt that I would get too rendered. I ended up trying different solutions digitally, but couldn’t settle on executing them traditionally.
- The texture in this piece was throwing me off because I was applying pastels on watercolor paper, and then painting on top of that with a palette knife. The texture was becoming too flat and unified. So, I resorted to a few accent areas with opaque acrylic on a brush to create some depth as well as define some hard edged lines along the silhouette.
