• To create a gesture drawing of the model in as few strokes as possible while limiting how many times I have to reposition the charcoal in my hand.
  • Also, I intended to create a sense of light and shadow in a minimal way. I find I was successful in achieving this in the way the direction of the hands and mahl stick break up light in perspective while the shadow from the head down along the body represents cast shadow along the same plane. I’m very pleased with how the left thigh and knee turned out because it best reflects the weight of the pose, contrast of planar shifts of both knees, and distribution of cast light.
  • I’m not that happy with the feet. I don’t appreciate the toes on the left foot. I reverted back to memory in how to draw them instead of exploring. I also don’t like why I drew the line under the right foot. It became an outline. The entire drawing is supposed to reflect planar shifts.
